I gave southeast four substantive ministers - Buhari to southeast leaders



- President Buhari met with southeast leaders in Abuja on Friday, October 13
- He spoke on the inclusion of southeast in his cabinet
- The president also pledges to build new roads, railway in the southeast 


President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, October 13, met with southeast governors, representatives of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and other leaders of the region

The southeast leaders met with the president at the presidential villa on Friday. 

The president, while discussing with them, spoke about the number of southeast indigenes in his cabinet and his dedication to eradicate any form of marginalisation in the country, Premium Times reports.

He said: “I gave southeast four substantive ministers in the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Investment, Science and Technology and Labour. 
The southeast leaders were led by the deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu



“Seven states in the North got Ministers of State and of the two Ministries headed by your sons, I cannot take any decision on foreign policy and investments without their input."

The president also promised that his administration will focus on the east-west roads construction, second Niger bridge and the railway construction in the region.

He said his administration is collaborating with Chinese government to fund the project and develop southeast region. 
The president promised that his administration has no intention of marginalising any region 

He said: “I know the Chinese are very competent in handling such projects and we will ensure that we get the money for the projects to take off.

"I want to assure that we are doing our best for the country. If we can stop people from stealing, then there will be more resources to put into projects that will create employment for Nigerians.

“I want to assure you that I came into government with a clear conscience and I will also leave with a clear conscience."

The president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, John Nnia Nwodo, while responding to President Buhari said the region is ready to work with the president. Nwodo urged the president to focus on developing the region. 


President Buhari promised to work on developing infrastructure in the southeast.

 
He said: “We are ready to work with you. We are determined to work with you. We know you are a decisive leader and we know God will continue to give you the wisdom to govern Nigeria."

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state, who also spoke at the event said: “You have no hatred for any state. You have treated all states with equality. What one state gets in the north, the other gets in the south.
